2010
College Baseball World Series. All 64 teams were
announced this morning, as well as which teams would be playing host to the NCAA 2010 Regionals. Eight teams from the Pac-10 Conference the SEC, and the Atlantic Coast all made it into the field.

The teams are listed below in the brackets that they will come out of, with the winner of the first set playing the winner of the second set in the Super Regionals. For instance, the winner of the Tempe Regional will play against the Fayetteville Regional winner in the Super Regionals to decide which of the two teams heads on to the 2010 College Baseball World Series.

The 2010 Men's College World Series will play its first game on Saturday, June 19th, giving us just three weeks for the exciting Regionals and Super Regionals to play out before we have the field of eight teams that will play for the 2010 NCAA Baseball National Championship.

NCAA Baseball tournament 2010 live stream

WSU has made the 2010 NCAA College Baseball Tournament. On Monday, May 31, the NCAA College Baseball Tournament named the 64 teams that will be playing for a chance at the 2010 College Baseball World Series, and Washington State University found themselves among the field. It is the second consecutive year that WSU has made it into the NCAA Baseball Playoffs, and gives them another chance to seek postseason success in the most prestigious of college baseball tournaments.

Washington State finished the season with a 34-20 overall record, posting a 15-12 record in a very tough Pac-10 Conference. Pointing to how tough the conference was this year, Arizona State, which won the regular season Pac-10 championship, is the No. 1 overall seed in the 2010 NCAA Tournament. There are several other Pac-10 teams that made the tournament as well, including UCLA, Oregon, and Arizona just to name a few. They received their marching orders on May 31st as well, and all of these Pac-10 teams will be playing in difference regional tournaments.

Every team that makes the 2010 NCAA Baseball Tournament is placed into a four team grouping. Within those four teams is a double-elimination tournament, where one team emerges to play in the Super Regionals or basically the second round. Just 16 teams emerge from the Regionals, and just eight teams emerge from the Super Regionals to make up the final field of eight teams that will play for the 2010 College Baseball World Series.

Washington State will play in the Fayetteville Regional, hosted by Arkansas and joined by Grambling and Kansas State. It's a good seeding for WSU, and hopefully it can help them advance past the first round of the 2010 NCAA College Baseball Tournament. Games get started on Friday, June 4th, 2010.

Dennis Hopper death

Dennis Hopper, whose portrayals of drug-addled, often deranged misfits in the landmark films “Easy Rider,” “Apocalypse Now” and “Blue Velvet” drew on his early out-of-control experiences as part of a new generation of Hollywood rebel, died at his home in Venice, Calif., on Saturday. He was 74.

According to the Times obituary written by Edward Wyatt, Mr. Hopper died from complications of prostate cancer. His death was first reported by Reuters.

Mr. Hopper, who said he stopped drinking and using drugs in the mid-1980s, followed that change with a tireless phase of his career in which he claimed to have turned down no parts. His credits include at least six films released in 2008 and at least 25 over the past 10 years.

Most recently, Mr. Hopper starred in the television series “Crash,” an adaptation of the Oscar-winning film of the same title. Produced for the Starz cable channel, the show had Mr. Hopper portraying a music producer unhinged by years of drug use. During a promotional tour last fall for that series, he fell ill; shortly thereafter, he began a new round of treatments for prostate cancer, which he said was first diagnosed a decade ago.

Bayou Country Superfest organizers expect at least 80,000 people from across the United States and Europe to file into LSU Tiger Stadium Memorial Day weekend.

Superfest producer-director Quint Davis said the number of ticket holders far exceeds his initial projections for the star-studded music festival, which takes place Saturday and Sunday, May 29-30.

“It’s unbelievable and counterintuitive,” said Davis, chief executive officer of Festival Productions Inc.-New Orleans, which stages the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the Essence Musical Festival.

“We are proving a small number of people right and a much larger number of people wrong,” Davis said.

No one, however, is complaining since robust ticket sales means a bigger boost to the Baton Rouge area’s economy.

A study done on the concert headlined by Taylor Swift and Kenny Chesney showed a projected economic impact of $25 million, Davis said. That amount should be bigger since the study was based on an attendance of 30,000, organizers said.

“We think the festival is going to have an impact beyond East Baton Rouge Parish and the immediate nine-parish area,” said Paul Arrigo, president and chief executive officer of the Baton Rouge Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We think it’s going to affect all of southeast Louisiana.”

Businesses across the area already have received an economic boost because of the upcoming music festival, Arrigo said.

Hotels and motels are booked, flights to and from Baton Rouge are just about full, and restaurant owners are scheduling extra staff, he said.

“It’s a big thing,” Arrigo said, especially for Memorial Day weekend in the capital city, which typically doesn’t draw a lot of visitors.

Garrett Kruithof, president of the Baton Rouge Hospitality Management Association and general manager of Best Western Richmond Suites on Hilton Avenue, said that in previous years only 5 percent to 10 percent of the 141 rooms at his establishment have been booked Memorial Day weekend.

This year, Richmond Suites rooms are booked solid Saturday, May 29, and is almost full Sunday, May 30, Kruithof said. The increase, he said, is due to Superfest.

Davis, who worked with AEG Live and The Messina Group to bring in Superfests
big country music names, said he intends on making the $6 million musical festival an annual event.
“I wouldn’t want to go to the trouble and I wouldn’t want to make the investment if it was just for a year,’ he said. “This is just the birth of a great new event.”

Superfest, Arrigo said, will also be a catalyst for other events in Baton Rouge, especially at Tiger Stadium, which has never hosted a concert event until the Memorial Day weekend event.

The latest star to fall prey to a nude-pic hack is Paramore's Hayley Williams, who told her 600,000-plus Twitter followers on Thursday that someone had jacked her account. The Tweet was in response to a topless photo of the 21-year-old singer that began making the rounds that day, which Williams alleged was sent out without her consent by someone who cracked her Twitpic account, but which some online reports suggested may have been accidentally posted by the singer and then quickly removed — but not before it began rocketing across the Internet.

Internet privacy and security lawyer Dr. Parry Aftab — who was one of the experts in MTV's recent "Sexting In America: When Privates Go Public" special — said on Friday (May 28) that there are a number of relatively simple ways to make sure your private business stays that way.

"It all starts with good digital hygiene," said Aftab. "It's like brushing your teeth twice a day so you won't get cavities and won't offend the person sitting across from you. The first step is picking a password that easy to remember but hard to get." Aftab said the mistake most people make is choosing a password from the "20 questions" list, which include such obvious things as your middle name, favorite sports team, the street you live on or your pet's name, all information that is easy to obtain if you are a public figure. That, she noted, is how a kid from France was able to hack President Obama's Twitter account earlier this year by guessing that the leader of the free world used the First Dog Bo's name as his password.

"If you don't use a password that's hard to guess, anyone can figure it out, but you also don't want one that's so hard for you to remember that you have to write it down, because then someone can find it," she warned.

The other hygienic practice she recommends is not pre-saving passwords on computers, iPads or other digital devices. Though it is a time saver and might help you avoid fumbling for the right password, Aftab said if anyone else uses the device, it could spell trouble. "If you have an assistant or you share the device with a friend — or someone you think is your friend — it allows them access to all your special stuff," she said. "And that's like pre-saving your ATM number. You just don't want to store that on any device that someone else can access. It's like locking your door instead of leaving it wide open."

And while Aftab recommends keeping intimate moments completely private, if you are going to sext, she said to remove the salacious images from any device where they can be shared. "If you're taking a naked picture, the best thing is not to text it," she said. "You're better off printing it out and handing it to him, but even that can be scanned and texted out. Anything in a digital format exists forever, and you can never really protect it. It's the law of negativity in the universe: If it's there, it will be found."

If you are a victim of a sexy picture gone viral, Aftab said the next best thing you can do is stop it as fast as you can. "When you're on Twitter and your followed by a gazillion people you can't really stop it," she said. "But you can try to delete it. If someone hacked it or it got sent out by accident, which happens all the time, that's why you don't keep it in a place where it can be sent out accidentally by clicking a button."

Aftab doesn't just issue warnings and advice, she has also been working with Twitter on a Verified Twitter program that is now in beta testing and is similar to the one she set up Faceook called the Certified Celebrity Program. "My consulting firm [Wired Trust] is doing it as a free service for celebrities to confirm who they are, so Facebook will protect those pages and nobody can try to take them over unless they're authorized though a special thing we have set up through Facebook," she said.

Like the Facebook program, the new Twitter tool will allow celebrities to keep their profiles on lock and, if need be, act quickly in case something goes awry.

"If Twitter knows you're a verified celebrity and something happens, there's a special contact that can shut things down in a heartbeat," she said.

How exactly the tape came onto the market is unclear. Tabloids like Radar have claimed that Kendra is making out like a bandit on the tape's release and that there are more videos of her being shopped. Kendra's attorney fired a "cease and desist" letter at Vivid to stop the tape.

But Vivid founder Steven Hirsch told Celebrity Circuit that their attorneys had given them the green light to release the sex video regardless of how Kendra felt about.

And yesterday they did just that.

It’s pretty scary to see a two-year-old smoking cigarettes like a pro. The image is so wrong it makes me want to shout at the screen.

Like most sensationally wrong things, though, this one is rare. There’s hardly an epidemic of toddler smokers out there. I’m not worried about my own two-year-old being offered her first cigarette by a delinquent preschooler at playgroup.


In ten years, though, I’ll have to deal with the much less sensational but more real dangers of my kids being pressured into smoking by peers. Most smokers start smoking in adolescence.

So while we’re all on the topic of kids and smoking, let’s talk about the more common phenomenon of older kids trying out cigarettes.

Smoking is on the decline here in the States, even as it continues to increase in Indonesia (where the smoking toddler lives). Twenty-five percent of Indonesian kids have tried smoking, and 3.2% are thought to be regular smokers. The numbers aren’t much better here: 22% of U.S. kids have tried smoking at least once by the end of 8th grade.

My kids will be bombarded with less child-centered cigarette advertising than I was as a kid, and I’m grateful for that. They’ll also see fewer smokers, and be exposed to less second hand smoke.

Hopefully, those factors will help them make better choices than I did about cigarettes. Here are some tips for parents to help their kids steer clear of smoking:
Talk about it. Talking about smoking in a clear honest way will help your kids learn your values.
Keep talking about it. Like most sensitive topics, this is one you’ll want to revisit over the years with age-appropriate information and dialog.
Encourage healthy activities. Kids who are involved in sports or active in community activities that forbid smoking will be less likely to take it up themselves.
Confront peer pressure. Acknowledge that friends may pressure your child to smoke, and try to give her tools to say no. Simply walking away can be extremely effective.
Don’t smoke. This is so obvious it almost doesn’t need saying, but if you smoke your children are much more likely to.

Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was fired from Compuware Corporation today after he was sentenced to prison for violating his probation.

He was sentenced to 18 months to 5 years in prison for allegedly lying while on probation about hiding money that was supposed to go toward paying his $1 million restitution to the City of Detroit.

“Kwame Kilpatrick will be off the Compuware Corporation payroll at the end of the month," said a statement from the company. "We don’t have any choices. It’s an unfortunate situation, and we feel bad for his family, but our hands are tied.”

Listed for $1.15 million, the picturesque and pristine home looks very different from the home where Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered six family members as they slept in 1974. The 28 supposedly haunted days in the house experienced by subsequent owners George and Kathleen Lutz spawned the 1977 bestselling Jay Anson book “The Amityville Horror: A True Story” and a series of scary movies about alleged supernatural happenings at the house starting in 1979.

Even the address is different. Previous owners James and Barbara Cromarty, who own the Riverhead Raceway, said they had it changed from 112 Ocean Ave. to protect their privacy.

James Cromarty, 77, bought the house in 1977. By that point, a bank had foreclosed on the house from the Lutzes, who have since died. DeFeo is at the upstate Green Haven Correctional Facility, serving 25 years to life for the murders.

“Nothing weird ever happened, except for people coming by because of the book and the movie,” said Cromarty, who lived a decade in the house.

He and his wife, Barbara, sold the house in 1987 to Peter and Jeanne O’Neill. Reached Monday, Jeanne O’Neill said, “I loved it. It was a beautiful home.” They sold the house in 1997 for $310,000 to the current owner, which records identify as Brian Wilson.

“It’s one of the more beautifully redone houses in the neighborhood,” said listing agent Laura Zambratto of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty.

Jerry O’Neill of Coldwell Banker Harbor Light, who has been selling Amityville real estate for 38 years and whose brother, Peter, used to own the house, said he thinks the price is fair. “It’s a gorgeous, big center hall Colonial with a finished basement,” said O’Neill, with “nothing spooky about it.” Neighbors said that there are occasional gawkers, mostly on Halloween.

It’s not the only notorious Long Island house on the market. Recently, the East Meadow expanded ranch where serial killer Joel Rifkin used to live, sometimes bringing victims back to the house, was listed for $424,500.

24 series finale review | The Best Review

24 ended its gloriously ridiculous, wildly entertaining, f*cking badass run with a two-hour series finale last night, and though it had some pitfalls, it's hard to deny that it was a pretty great finale. It felt more like a great season finale, sure, but to their credit they're trying to get a movie made, here.

If the movie happens, this will go down as an excellent series finale, and one that's justified. If it doesn't, well... let's not think about that. Let's just review the best and worst elements of the finale as it stood last night.

Best: Everything Jack and Jason Pillar
From taking Pillar hostage in his own car, to making him cry and beg for his life, to Mike Tysoning his ear off for groping Chloe, Jack took care of that weasel Jason Pillar in the finale almost as satisfactorily as Charles Logan did.

Worst: Jack Goes on the Run -- Again.
The resolution of the series finale was disappointing for two reasons: One, it was just a setup for a movie that might not even happen, which made me feel cheated as a devoted viewer of the television show, and two, it was a rehash of Season Four's ending, with Jack on the run and everything uncertain. Though I must say that the fact that Kim is probably going to have to do some shitty clerical job in the Midwest somewhere for the rest of her life once she enters witness protection did soften the blow a bit.

Worst: Speaking of Kim...
How's Chloe going to protect Kim from both the Russian and United States military and law enforcement agencies, exactly? With CTU resources? Good luck. Great idea, Jack.

Best: Logan's Meltdown
Though it is disappointing that Logan will likely live, watching him murder his Number 2 (and self righteously defend his actions to the guy's unconscious body while he did it) and then try to get out of taking responsibility for his crimes by attempting suicide was a brilliantly pitiful character moment for one of the most pathetically evil 24 villains ever. Charles Logan can't even shoot himself in the face effectively, which... sounds about right. You know Martha was somewhere in a straitjacket just laughing her ass off to Fox News later that night.

Buzz Aldrin, Shannon Doherty, Pamela Anderson, Evan Lysacek, Nicole Scherzinger, Erin Andrews, Aiden Turner, Kate Gosselin, Jake Pavelka, Niecy Nash, and Chad Ochocinco all competed over the past eight weeks and it is finally down to the Dancing with the Stars final three.

Evan Lysacek and partner Anna Trebunska, Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough, and Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy all made it to the top three and on Monday night, dancing into the finale to wow the judges and impress America. There was flair, flash, and even some falls as the three DWTS contestants all did what they could to waltz away with the Mirror Ball title for Season 10 of Dancing with the Stars.

Scherzinger was the most daring on Monday night, as Nicole and Derek Hough went for a complicated lift that had the Pussycat Doll balancing precariously to stay upright. It proved that all of those hours spent on sky-high heels and dancing on cars finally paid off. And what of Evan Lysacek who skated his way to a gold medal at this year’s Olympics in Vancouver? Well, Olympic legacy aside, Evan and Anna were a little too loose on their freestyle routine, which cost Lysacek points and put him in last place with a 52, as Erin Andrews and Nicole Scherzinger shared the lead with 55 combined Dancing with the Stars points apiece.

So, three couples left, two dances apiece, and one Kate Gosselin set to return to the stage on Tuesday night’s results finale of Dancing with the Stars. Andrews was the underdog but is now tied for the lead while Scherzinger was always a front-runner, thanks in large part to her ease on stage and years of being a Pussycat Doll. Evan Lysacek proved that he could glide just as easily across a dance floor as he could on an ice rink.

After eight action-packed days of foiling terrorist plots, killing the bad guys and losing plenty of sleep, Jack Bauer's time on the small screen finally runs out with Monday's series finale of "24." It hasn't always been an easy road for the former Counter Terrorism Unit operative — indeed, many would argue that the show is far from its glory days of seasons one and two — but with the end of "24" comes the end of a television era, particularly when coupled with Sunday night's series finale of "Lost." If you haven't been keeping up with "24" but still want to tune into the final two-hour installment, rewinding the clock to the beginning of the season isn't exactly the most time-efficient way to familiarize yourself with this year's story. Instead, we'll do our best to debrief you on all the important details of Bauer's final day on television.

As "24" began its eighth season, Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) had just finished recovering from a lethal viral infection contracted at the end of season seven. But his days watching cartoons on the couch with his granddaughter were cut short upon his discovery of a plot to assassinate Omar Hassan (Anil Kapoor), the president of the Islamic Republic of Kamistan, who's hard at work on a historic peace treaty with U.S. President Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones). Along with the help of longtime friend and quirky CTU analyst Chloe O'Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub) and budding love interest Renee Walker (Annie Wersching), Bauer prevented an initial attempt on Hassan's life and spent the next several hours investigating a related terrorist plot to detonate a nuclear device in New York City.

Eventually, these terrorists revealed that they would willingly surrender the nuclear bomb in exchange for President Hassan as a prisoner. Both President Taylor and Bauer refused to comply, but Hassan, not willing to value his life over the lives of hundreds of thousands of innocent people, handed himself over to the terrorists. In one of the season's most shocking moments, Bauer subsequently discovered Hassan's brutally executed body. Thinking that he and his allies had failed, Bauer and Renee retired to Jack's apartment to commiserate with each other, leading to a lengthy bedroom romp that ended with the ultimate form of sexual frustration: From several rooftops away, a Russian assassin shot and killed Renee, leaving Bauer covered in blood and more distraught than ever before.

A devastated Jack soon learned the reason behind Renee's murder: Because of her past connections as a mole within the Russian mob, Renee would have been able to identify certain Russian officials who were secretly responsible for all the day's events, including Hassan's assassination. Bauer took this news to President Taylor, but she refused to follow through with a proper investigation as it would jeopardize America's relationship with Russia, one of the essential partners in completing the peace treaty with Hassan's homeland. Although Taylor justified the cover-up as a means to pursuing the treaty, Bauer wasn't satisfied with her motives and consequently embarked on his own quest for justice against the Russians responsible for killing Hassan and Renee.

But rather than tracking down the guilty parties and placing them under arrest, the vengeful Bauer instead opted to kill everyone responsible for Hassan and Renee's death, legal system be damned. In the most recent episode, Jack uncovered the identities of two of the people most culpable for these deaths: Russian President Yuri Suvarov (Nick Jameson) and disgraced former U.S. President Charles Logan (Gregory Itzin), the same man who ordered the assassination of beloved President David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) in the show's fifth season.

With only two hours remaining and a knife wound to the abdomen slowing him down, Bauer is running out of time to bring his bloody brand of justice to Suvarov's and Logan's doorsteps. Complicating matters further is the fact that the entirety of CTU, including Chloe and special agent Cole Ortiz (Freddie Prinze Jr.), has orders to take Bauer down using any means necessary. As "24" rushes toward the finish line, the great irony is this: After eight seasons of successfully unraveling conspiracies and thwarting terrible threats, Bauer himself has become the greatest threat of them all.

It's not that we're shallow (much), but on shows like 'The Bachelor' and 'The Bachelorette,' it's safe to say we're not tuning in for the riveting conversation or sparkling wit -- there's a reason why ABC opted to open last season's 'Bachelor' premiere with all of those generous shots of Jake Pavelka soaping up his washboard abs, after all.

So sue us if we were kind of hoping for some eye candy to nibble on when the newest season of 'The Bachelorette' rolled around (premiere airs tonight at 9PM ET). Twenty-five eligible men vying for one lucky lady? Sounds like any girl's dream come true, right?

Wrong; unless you like your men with an overabundance of forehead, ear or nose, chances are that the bevy of bachelors chosen for Ali Fedotowsky aren't likely to have you running to the florist to invest in roses.

OK, maybe it's mean spirited to pick on a guy (or 10) who's on a quest for true love just because of some unfortunate genetics, but hey, if you don't want to be scrutinized by the cold, harsh light of the media over your superficial flaws, don't sign up for a reality dating show.

Unless you've been living under a rock since the fall and were somehow fortunate enough to miss the scandalicious last season of 'The Bachelor,' you're probably familiar with Ali Fedotowsky, an advertising account manager from San Francisco who was an early favorite to fly off into the sunset with 'Bachelor' Jake (we were totally rooting for her; Vienna was just so screechy).

ABC is now marketing Ali as "America's newest sweetheart," after she won the hearts of the nation following her shocking exit from 'The Bachelor' to return to her job; a job she subsequently quit to become 'The Bachelorette.'

We assume that this total abandonment of real life is Ali's way of safeguarding against the urge to change her mind and walk out in the middle of her own reality show after seeing the lackluster group of guys the producers have assembled for her. Or to "commit to the search for love, blah blah blah soulmates," etc.

But if America and ABC love Ali as much as the advertising materials claim, would it have been so difficult to scrape together a few male models, wannabe actors, suave advertising execs and maybe a pro-wrestler or two? (Well, one out of four ain't bad.) Going from a musclebound Texan pilot with a million-dollar smile to a shiny-skinned weatherman is not our idea of a happy ending for our lovelorn Bachelorette -- were the pickings really that slim?

With the Stanley Cup Finals almost rounded into shape, the schedule will soon be released. While no official word has been given on any set dates or times, the latest that the Eastern Conference Finals can go would be a game 7 on May 28.

This would require Montreal 's third straight series comeback. The Habs came back down 3-1 against the Caps, and 3-2 against the Penguins.

Last season the NHL rushed the start of the finals after the Red Wings and Penguins swept their opponents. This led to a controversial decision of holding back to back finals games to start the series. This year, the NHL may opt to take a little more time, though it may not matter.

If the series ends tonight, various ticket brokerage sites list game 1 as occurring on May 31st. While this is not set in stone, the holiday weekend may be the best time to start the series. Currently, NBC has an SNL 2000s flashback episode re-run slated for Monday May 31st in the 8 p.m time slot. This would be an easily replaceable program.

From there Game 2 would occur on Wednesday June 2nd, which is already listed on cable as an 8 p.m Stanley Cup Finals game on Versus. After that, the scheduling could take a turn. Based on NBC's tight availability, the NHL may structure whatever they can get on network television.

Another factor is the NBA. With their finals slated to start either June 1st or 3rd, the NHL may avoid some conflicting times. The NBA has already released their possible finals schedules, giving the NHL and the networks a chance to compare. Based on the NBA schedule, June 5th for game 3 would make most sense.

Then it could get interesting, does the NHL go head to head with the NBA on Sunday June 6th and play a back to back set of finals games? With NBC controlling much of their schedule, it is a possibility.

But will any of this scheduling truly matter in the end? Are the Blackhawks just too good anyway?

With Jonathan Toews currently living up to his captain status, and Dustin Byflugien riding a 5 game goals streak, various weapons have emerged for this team. They play physical, confident, and loose key ingredients for young teams to succeed.

This formula also includes Antti Niemi . The goalie didn't emerge until March, wrestling the starters job from Cristobal Huet . While he has been playing well, he still may be the vulnerable piece of the puzzle. Great defense and potent offense have kept the pressure off him, but how will he handle adversity?

In a city known for fashion, the elder Williams sister took the court in Paris Sunday for her opening-round match wearing a lacy black "Can-Can'' corset with spaghetti straps and red trim that created plenty of buzz.

As Williams ran and jumped her way around the court, the fancy get-up -- designed to give the illusion of being see-through -- was prone to several revealing moments. Williams, who designed the outfit herself, drew whistles from the Paris crowd.

The attire certainly didn't hamper her play. The No. 2 ranked Williams choreographed a 6-3, 6-3 victory over longtime foil Patty Schnyder in the match. Williams has lost in the third round at this event in each of the past three years.

Then the main event, at 9/8c the two and half hour season finale will air.

Afterwards cast members will appear on a special episode of Jimmy Kimmel live titled, "Aloha to Lost". Kimmel has been promising to air 3 unused alternate endings.

Fun, right? Yeah, I tried to play a couple of times this morning - realizing quickly that I should stick to the full-size arcade version. But in the middle of a game, the phone rang and I hit the mute button on my keyboard and went back to work.

A couple of hours later - and numerous browser windows and browser tabs later - I clicked on the link for a news video and had no audio. I hit the volume button, taking the machine out of mute mode, and was surprised to hear what sounded like a siren coming from my machine.

What the heck is that, I wondered? I have a Mac so the idea of some anti-virus pop-up warning going off in the background was unlikely. Plus, the computer wasn’t slowing down or showing any other signs of malfunctioning. So I started to shut down completely - but when I quit Firefox, the siren suddenly stopped.

With the problem solved, I halted the complete shutdown and went back to work, still unsure of what exactly had happened.

Later, I opened a window on Chrome, which is set to open directly to Google, and within seconds, I heard that familiar tune that tells me that Pac-Man is about to start. When the familiar wah-wah-wah-wah-wah sound started shortly after, I recognized the siren sound from earlier. And then it all made sense - kind of.

It’s cool that there’s an interactive game on Google’s logo - a first, I understand - but did Google have to make it auto-start? And where’s the mute button on the game?

I know… boo-hoo for me. Just click away and the game goes away, right? Not exactly. And here’s where it gets weird - at least for me. When I launch Firefox, the browser does just as it should - it opens a window to this blog, which I’ve set as the default home page. But then, within seconds, there was that Pac-Man tune again. There were no other windows open and no other tabs open. And yet, Pac-Man sound is still on.

Jose Lima died | Sad news

For me, it was 1994, when Lima was an effervescent (of course) 21-year-old who recently had pitched a no-hitter for Detroit's Class AAA farm team in Toledo, Ohio.

The story was supposed to be about this kid who came within one walk of a perfect game, then stayed on the field for 45 minutes signing autographs, finally showered and signed another couple hundred after leaving the clubhouse.

"These people cheer for me," he told me. "I could never say no."

Lima, it seemed, could never say nothing.

He was rewarded for it -- with far more attention than anyone with a 89-102 career record could expect, especially when nearly a quarter of the wins in his 13-year career came in one magical 21-10 season for Houston in 1999.

He also took his share of heat for it. These were my published impressions of that meeting in a cramped clubhouse at Toledo's since-replaced relic of a ballpark:

"He signs and chats every day. He wants to catch every ceremonial first pitch. It certainly hasn't gone unnoticed. Chatting with Lima in the Mud Hens clubhouse, it doesn't take rabbit ears to hear remarks muttered among a few teammates that this was some self-hype act, not what the seasoned pro would do."

Ten years later, the Los Angeles Dodgers got off the team plane from St. Louis at 4 a.m. after losing the first two games of a best-of-five playoff series. The bleary eyed players dragged themselves onto the bus when, suddenly, cranked-up salsa music jolted everyone.

"Yeah, he always wakes us up," teammate Eric Gagne said of Lima. "He's the one that gets everything going. He changed the mood. Everyone was down a little bit. He came in, started dancing, started singing. He's always positive, always optimistic."

Hundreds of thousands of people have visited the website of the House select committee chaired by Massachusetts Representative Edward Markey to see live video of the oil gushing from the broken pipe that is creating the massive spill in the Gulf of Mexico, a spokesman said.

The live feed was posted shortly before 1:30 p.m. Thursday, said Eben Burnham-Snyder, a spokesman for the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. The video, transmitted from 5,000 feet below the sea's surface, showed billowing clouds streaming upward from pipes on the sea floor this morning.

"This is a victory for transparency and open access to information, and for the ongoing efforts to understand the magnitude of this unfolding disaster and how best to solve it. Now the world can see what is happening 5,000 feet beneath the ocean floor, without having to wait hours before knowing what BP has either done or failed to do," Markey said Thursday in a statement. "I am pleased to have been able to help secure this result for the public."

Markey had asked BP earlier this week to release the feed.

BP issued a statement this morning that it was also making the live video available on its website. It said it had already been providing a live feed to government agencies for two weeks.

Web outlets are reporting that Bret was complaining of numbness on the left side body, face and hands. Bret Michael's the front man of the band Poison has fans around the world who wish him a speedy recovery.

Macgruber review and Macgruber trailer

'Saturday Night Live' has been responsible for more of than its fair share of terrible sketch spin off movies (The Ladies Man... Superstar), so I'm happy to report that with 'MacGruber', they finally got it right.

Here is the basic premise of the story: MacGruber (played by Will Forte) is a Special Forces operative who has been out of action for ten years after the murder of his fiancee. Also, he sports a mullet. When his nemesis, terrorist Dieter van Cunth (played by Val Kilmer), gets his hands on a nuclear bomb, MacGruber must return from seclusion to defeat him. To do this he is aided by a crack team of operatives including Kristen Wiig as the love interest and Ryan Phillippe as the straight man.

'Macgruber' is lowbrow comedy at its best. It carefully juggles tasteless and vulgar jokes with a performance of childlike innocence that seems to keep it from becoming raunchy. The tone of the movie is that of a 1980's action movie with even the main characters' wardrobe seeming to come from that era. Also, the movie does great in that it does not limit itself to the original sketch in anyway. In fact, the events in the reoccurring sketch never actually happen in the movie. This works in the movie's favor and helps give it a freedom to do whatever it wants.

The best thing about this movie is the acting of the leads, especially Will Forte and Kristen Wiig. Forte gives the character his full devotion and is willing to for anything necessary to get the laugh without seeming desperate. Wiig, who is always funny, does a great job as sidekick. A lot of people are put off by Wiig's loud and nervous characters but in MacGruber she shows a much more subtle side that makes her character the perfect sidekick without overshadowing the star. Phillippe does a solid job in his role, which does not really have any comedic tone and Val Kilmer delivers a few chuckles. Overall, the film is consistently funny which cannot be said for most movies today where all the funny parts are in the commercials.

It's the Pac-Man 30th anniversary this weekend, and Google is celebrating as only Google can: with a free online game embedded in its homepage logo.

The ever-changing Google logos - called Google Doodles - which often celebrate holidays and notable birthdays, was updated Friday to look like a screen classic Pac-Man game.

But in a delightful twist - the logo actually is a Pac-Man game. Alongside the "Google Search" button, today the site offers an "Insert Coin" button.

Click it once - you get Pac-Man. And added bonus - click it twice - you get Ms. Pac-Man for two players.

Google's and Twitter search trends were burning with Pac-Man related key words as word spread - and (we suspect!) work in offices across the nation ground to a halt and game fans paused to play.

GE Coffee Maker Recall

Wal-Mart announced Thursday a voluntary recall of almost 1 million GE brand 12-cup digital coffeemakers because they can overheat or cause fires.

Customers should stop using the recalled coffeemakers immediately and return the product to Wal-Mart for a full refund, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said in a release.

The items, which come in white and black and have programmable functions, were sold at Wal-Mart stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com from March 2008 through January 2010. They cost $30.

To see if you have one of the recalled models, check the bottom of the base for model number 169164 or 169165.

Even if you bought the coffee maker online, you can return it to any Wal-Mart store for a full refund or store credit, a Wal-Mart customer-service representative said. Customers do not need to show receipts, though for online purchases they can be accessed and printed from the company's website.

Wal-Mart received 83 reports of “overheating, smoking, melting, burning, and fire,” according to the CPSC.

There were also three reports of customers burning their hands or feet as well as reports of damage to kitchen countertops or cabinets and one larger kitchen fire.

John Travolta dogs killed

John Travolta's two dogs were killed on the tarmac of the Bangor International Airport in Bangor, Maine last week.

Based on what few details are being released, as the incident is still "under investigation", it hard to understand exactly how this happened. Apparently, John and his family landed at the airport early on the morning of May 13th and that's when a "liaison" for the family walked the dogs across the tarmac to the grass. Unfortunately, a pick up truck driven by an airport employee was approaching Travolta's aircraft and somehow hit killed both dogs while they were crossing the tarmac. So it wasn't a plane that hit them, at least.

"The Airport has sent a floral arrangement and card to the Travolta's, who are on an island off the coast of Maine," Bangor Interim City Manager Robert Farra said in one of two emails to city council members Friday.

This is just one more reason why airports are creating safe spaces where pups can conduct their business in-between flights.

Its not all bad news for the Travolta's though. Late yesterday in a statement, John and his wife, Kelly Preston, announced they are expecting an addition to the family! Congrats!

In Deadliest Warrior: Nazi SS vs, Viet Cong, two of the worst scourges of the 20th century are pitted against one another; Nazi against Commie. It is one of those rare instances in which one could hope both sides wipe one another out.

One of the interesting aspects of this scenario is that something like this likely happened after a fashion. A lot of the French Foreign Legion who fought the Viet Mihn, the predecessors of the Viet Cong, had been former SS. Even so, the idea of the Waffen SS slogging through the elephant grass, hunting Charlie is somewhat intriguing. They would have been far more careless about inflicting civilian casualties; in fact it would have been standard operating procedure.

In any event, while both sides were equally brutal, the Waffen SS was a technologically advanced fighting force while the Viet Cong were guerillas, used to making do with what was at hand. This last involved making nasty traps with sharpened bamboo pongee sticks, dipped in human feces. If being impaled does not dispatch one, the septic shock will likely carry one off if not treated in time.

Once again we see the effects of weapons on ballistic gel dummies and animal carcasses. The return of the flame thrower, last seen with the IRA, is particularly gruesome. The little snippets of the VC and the Waffen SS mowing down Americans (and French Resistance in the case of the Nazis) was a little bit disconcerting.

John Travolta dogs killed! OMG!

An airport service vehicle struck and killed two dogs belonging to John Travolta last week at Bangor International Airport in Maine. The accident occurred last Thursday morning; city officials confirmed the story to the Bangor Daily News today.

"The airport takes safety very seriously," airport director Rebecca Hupp told the BDN, adding the facility generally does not name its visitors for the sake of privacy. "Many flights come and go without incidents. Clearly, this is an unfortunate accident. Our deepest sympathies are with the family."

Travolta and wife Kelly Preston own a home on Isleboro, Maine -- the family was traveling by way of Bangor. The actor's publicist, Paul Bloch, told the BDN that he was not aware of the incident.


Bangor interim city manager Bob Farrar e-mailed the nine city councilors about the accident late last week. The city released the following statement to the BDN:

"At approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2010, an airplane carrying members of the John Travolta family landed at BIA. While there, two small dogs were taken for a walk by someone who is not a family member. An airport service pickup truck was approaching the airplane to service the airplane and did not see the dogs. Unfortunately, the dogs were struck and killed. The airport is investigating the accident. Out of respect for the family's privacy the city will make no further comment."

Travolta, who starred in 'Old Dogs' in 2009 and voiced a computer-animated canine in 2008's 'Bolt,' is a serious pilot who often flies himself into Bangor's modest airport. The Bangor Daily News was unsure whether Travolta was flying the plane on the day of the incident.

Sullivan's son, twelve-year-old Michael Sullivan, Jr., follows the enforcers, witnesses Connor's impulsive killing of McGovern, and stumbles into discovery by Connor and his father. Although Sullivan swears his son to secrecy, Connor tries to seal the secret with a failed attempt to kill Sullivan, while murdering Sullivan's wife, Annie, and the younger son, Peter. Sullivan and his son Michael escape the attack and flee to Chicago.

Sullivan requests assistance from Al Capone's crime syndicate to seek revenge, but when he is rejected, Sullivan and his son plan a string of robberies to steal the syndicate's laundered money. Sullivan hopes to coerce Capone into giving up Connor for the money, but Capone instead dispatches assassin Harlen Maguire to kill Sullivan and his son. Maguire sets up a trap for Sullivan with the aid of Rooney's accountant, Alexander Rance. Sullivan arrives at Rance's hotel room, seeking assistance, and Rance stalls him long enough for Maguire to appear. Rance is killed in the crossfire of the ensuing gunfight, but Sullivan escapes, however he is shot in the arm. Maguire receives a superficial wound to his face, where debris is embedded down one side of his head, but he survives. Sullivan's son takes his father to a farm where a childless and elderly couple helps the former enforcer recover. During his recuperation, Sullivan finds in ledgers taken from Rance that Connor had embezzled money from his father under the names of gang members that he had murdered.

With Dave Zabriske in the runner-up spot here at the Tour of California twice, he can’t be overlooked as a contender.

The depth has been located at 113 kilometers and the epicenter at 101 kilometers from San Juan, the capital of the country.

Damaged houses are in the towns of Florida, Vega Baja, Lares, Moca and Utuado. Government is still assessing damages and has sent a team of engineers to evaluate the state of the damaged homes and provide earthquake kits.
