were trading 5.1% higher, while shares of Goldcorp (GG 43.40, +0.74, +1.73%)
(CA:G 45.61, +1.78, +4.06%) increased 4.4% and shares of Barrick Gold Corp.
(ABX 43.68, +0.80, +1.87%)
(CA:ABX 46.01, +1.88, +4.26%) added 4.1%.
Slumping crude-oil prices weighed on Canadian energy stocks and pushed down the main energy index (CA:I:IRTEN 140.48, -2.43, -1.70%) by 1.6%. Oil was recently trading at
$77.15 a barrel while shares of EnCana Corp. (CA:ECA 31.90, -0.50, -1.54%) fell 1.9%.
