Police charged 22-year-old men's lacrosse player George Huguely, an anthropology major from Chevy Chase, Md., with first-degree murder, but have said little else about the alleged crime.
There was visible signs of physical trauma to Love's body, police said in a statement, though no official cause of death has been released.
Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo told The Associated Press that Love's roommate called police around 2:15 a.m. The roommate, he said, believed she might have overdosed on alcohol, but when police arrived, "it was quickly apparent to them that this young lady was the victim of something far worse."
