Oklahoma tornado 2010

The National Weather Service has ruled that it was straight line winds and not a tornado that touched down in Clyde Friday night.

Chris Mock, director for the Sandusky County Emergency Management Agency, said the decision by the NWS came late afternoon Monday. The NWS told Mock with the lack of damage, there must not have been a tornado.

Tornado warnings were issued for Sandusky County and surrounding counties around 7:30 p.m.

Mock said two weather spotters reported "A funnel that formed into a tornado" during Friday's storm that produced heavy winds and large hail.

However, there were several other spotters with conflicting reports. Regardless of whether a tornado touched down, the damage was minimal.

Mock said if damage is reported, the NWS will send an official to investigate whether it was done by the tornado -- essentially not ruling out the possibility.

But the same storm system did produce a tornado later in the night.

NWS issued a tornado warning for Erie County and eastern Ottawa County and lifted the warning at 8:45 p.m. Friday.
