Opryland hotel evacuation


The Gaylord Opryland Resort - Nashville's largest hotel and convention center - might be closed for months due to severe damage from the unprecedented flooding over the weekend, according to the Nasvhille Business Journal.

The region experienced a historic series of storms that brought record rainfall and, now, widespread flooding, according to a Gaylord press release. The report sits adjacent to the Cumberland River and is protected by levees built to sustain 100-year-flood standard.

The Tennesean has a startling photo of the Gaylord hotel under water so deep that you can't even see the floor beneath it. Parts of the hotel are under 10 feet of water, and the water is still rising, the article says.

The hotel's general manager, Peter Weien, told the Tennessean that it could take months to re-open the hotel even though the 2,881 hotels are all safe because the damage to the public spaces is extreme...
